To start with I drew the outlines with a 2B pencil.

The outlines consist of multiple soft stokes that indicate the contour. If needed, a hard, pressured outline cannot be easily corrected.

The placing of the features as well as details and values come later. The outlines should be captured first. This cannot be achieved later as you develop the drawing. Once you’ve got the outlines down, you can then judge if the size and placement of the head is correct.
