I began by drawing a loose contour drawing to show the placement of the head and shoulders on the paper. For this I used a 2B pencil. The outline isn't an actual outline but consists of multiple soft stokes that indicate the contour.

Remember not to press too hard on the paper. If needed a hard, pressured outline cannot be easily corrected.
