His face is lit from above hence the strange shadows. Plus the picture is taken from below looking slightly up at his face.

I shaded the parts that are in the shadow with a 2B pencil to make it clearer where the shadows lie and to see if I had made mistakes regarding the proportions.

The features are not yet drawn precisely, but the way it looks like now gives me an idea of how the drawing will look like later.
